Mount Eden is also called Maungawhau in Māori that means the “Mountain of the Whau tree”. Mt Eden is a retail and residential area that is located about four kilometres southwest of Auckland’s Central Business District surrounded by Kingsland, Eden Terrace, Newmarket, Sandringham and Epsom. Mount Eden is one of the highest points of the Auckland region.
Mt Eden village is a heart of all entertainment activities in Mt Eden area that is located between Valley Road and Grange Road. Many people think of Mt Eden Village as a “Home of Arts” due to the large number of artists, writers, teachers and university lecturers living and locating nearby. Nowadays the village is mostly occupied by different shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Different tour operators offer heritage walks around Mt Eden to explore historical and cultural development of the area.
Mt Eden is very popular tourist destination mostly due to its highest non-manmade point Mount Eden Domain and Eden Park Stadium.
